New York, New York… my absolute favourite city in the world! From the silver food trucks serving hot coffee and bagels in the AM, to the buildings’ bright lights illuminating the streets in the PM. This city is fuelled by a constant energy. Hence, why it never sleeps and why I love it.
Having lived in NYC for 10 years I consider myself a true New Yawker. (And yes, I have the accent to prove it). This summer I spent a few nostalgic days there. I visited my old neighborhoods. I ate at my favourite restaurants. I shopped at my choice stores. And I walked, and walked, and walked. Because that’s what makes this city so special… the ability to move.
On this trip, I channeled my former wardrobe, striding through the streets in the only way I know how… dressed in all black. Beloved for its classic appeal (just ask Audrey), black is the ultimate urban color that works season after season. It’s appropriate anytime and anywhere, from brunch to rooftop cocktails. Plus it’s really practical, because let’s face it – city living is diiiirty and black hides all sorts of stains.
First, I went to Soul Cycle, my favourite spin studio. Renown for their iconic yellow bikes, bumping beats and yogic vibe, it’s the best place to sweat out your jet lag, while toning those quads. Here I wore a black tank and capris – dark enough to hide any sweat marks for a post-workout lunch. (Pardon my flushed face – that’s what big black sunglasses are made to conceal.)

After freshening up at my hotel, I walked through the Flatiron district for some good ol’ American shopping at the denim mecca, Madewell. (Behold the red, white and blue.) There I wore a black silk romper – an easy piece to beat the heat in, as well as slip on and off in dressing rooms. Plus a newly purchased hat that kept me shaded from the sunny sidewalks.

Later that evening, I headed west to the Highline, a park designed around a disused train track, for some scenic views of the skyline. There I wore a long, black cotton dress and rose gold sandals – comfortable enough for city strolling, but chic enough to wear to dinner downtown.

Lastly, I ended my night at Supper in the East Village, indulging in some comfort Italian food on their street-side patio, under the fire escapes, surrounded by graffiti. At this no reservation, cash only establishment, the spaghetti limone is always top of my list and king of the hill… in old New York, New York.
