Blame it on the autumn air, that soft chilly caress that strokes your cheek and whispers in your ear, “Get some new pencils. Buy a tweed jacket. And some loafers — It’s time to start over again.” And while I’ve been feeling that seasonal need to update my closet, I’ve been feeling the need to refresh my blog too. It’s fall makeover time.
Launched in 2016, Style On The Lamb is my pet project. It is a non-monetized, poorly SEO-structured personal blog that gives me great joy. It has allowed me to document my travels and fashions over the years with full creative conviction. I go where I want. I dress as I please. And I can write about it all as I like. It’s this freedom that I truly relish.
However, over the past year I have been precariously strung between balancing my entrepreneurial pursuits and being a new mother (not jobs that coexist easily). So without surprise, my blog has waned. My content has become sparse. My writing has become blah. Some of my widgets broke. Technically, Style On The Lamb is still wearing skinny jeans, when everyone else is wearing wide-leg styles. All because “finding the time” has become my ultimate challenge as a boss/mother/writer.
Now it’s Fall, “back to school time,” and my son has started attending nursery school. And finally, I have found a few hours a day to dedicate to something other than my jobs. I can regain a tiny amount of freedom… I can write.
I wondered if this was a good way to use my time. Do people still blog? Do people still even read? Is social media the only way forward? Should I make a podcast? Perhaps, a live performance piece? I don’t know the answer. I only know that I want to share and blogging gives me that opportunity. So, Style On The Lamb is getting a fall makeover.
This is not a rebrand. I am not changing the site’s signature colour to be more non-binary (pink is just fine). I’m not changing the logo to make it more serious (I love my little lamb icon – I painted it myself). I will continue to document my travel and fashion stories with my signature satirical humour. However, I will give readers so much more. I will be prolific in my posts and I will write actual articles about relevant lifestyle content. And I will go beyond the WEAR to WHERE and dive into the WHY, offering insight into styles and trends. I’ll be looking at the meat of the lamb, not just its fluffy coat. SOTL will be a content destination for REAL stories about style and life.
Also, I will be ampping up Style One The Lamb’s Instagram presence, with more conversational posts and highlight reels that include: Confessions from the Dressing Room, Dream Outfits, Style Research, Found, and Mum Styles.
But first, pumpkin picking.
