Clockwise: sangria at Sky Bar, trolly, pasteis de nada at Pastéis de Belém, me in Praça do Comércio, sunlight street, lobster at Cervejaria Ramiro
Lisbon is a city that can only be described as yellow, from the bright sun beaming down on to the cobble stone streets to the vibrantly painted buildings lining the squares. Golden old-world trollies, now painted with graffiti, climb the city’s steep hills, through narrow passageways, all the way to an 11th century stone castle.
Even the food and drinks are shades of marigold. Sangria pitchers are filled with ripe lemons and mint leaves. Rock lobsters are served fresh with generously buttered bread. And the traditional Portuguese desserts, pasteis de nata, are highly scouted for their warm custard filling and buttery crust.
Amidst all the city’s yellow dressings there is music! On every street and around every corner is a musical performer, from an acoustic guitar player to an operatic songstress. Clubs with live bands adorn the small streets of the Barrio Alto, while rooftop bars with DJs hover high above the city, offering soundtracks with skyline views. Populated by locals and roaming tourists, Lisbon buzzes like a hive in the summer sun.
My #styleonthelamb
What does one wear to a European city that’s perpetually sunny? I embraced Lisbon’s warm essence with lots of lightweight layers, neon colorways, and for the love of comfort, flat shoes!
For castle touring: white t-shirt and jean shorts (J.Crew), sneakers (Nike), hat (Hat Attack), big sunglasses (Kate Spade), small cross-body bag (Kate Spade)
For nighttime strolls: neon sweater (J.Crew), black romper (Anthropologie), shiny sandles (Birkenstocks), bracelets (Aurelie Bidermann, Cruciani)
For pool parties and pilates: a reversible statement-patterned bikini (Mara Hoffman), sunscreen band (Amazon).
