[LONDON] NEW YEAR BALLS!

disco ball

December is a month full of traditions.  Here are mine.

Each year my husband and I venture home to New York for an annual whirlwind Christmas vacation, visiting our families and friends across the tri-state area, while eating abundant cookies wherever we go. It’s so much fun to catch up with all our loved ones, but also incredibly exhausting.  So post-holiday, we always fly back to London to celebrate the new year in our expat hood.  It’s our time to step back from the Christmas chaos and let a little loose, sometimes solo and sometimes with friends.

This year, we met friends.  We (along with 6 others) spent New Year’s Eve at All Star Lanes in Holborn.  We drank elaborate cocktails, dined on eclectic comfort food, bowled a few rounds down a blue-lit alleyway, and danced the night away in a red velvet disco lounge.  It was a blast!

And as typical as drinking champagne on NYE, I always write down a list of resolutions and intentions for the upcoming year.  I set myself a list of ambitious but achievable goals across my mind, body and soul.

Except this year, I themed my list; a theme that unwittingly dominated my NYE celebrations… BALLS!  From the bowling lanes to the dance floor, balls were everywhere.  They rolled down alleyways, knocking down obstacles.  They sparkled on the ceiling, inciting people to dance.  What better symbol to start 2016 with!  So this year I resolve to move forward with unabashed gusto, no fear, no self-consciousness – just full-on confidence in all my actions, taking down pins and shining with intent.

My 2016 Resolutions (That Have Got Balls)

1) Embrace and share my creative side. This blog is an amazing creative outlet for me and I’m going to truly own it by revamping the platform, posting new weekly content, developing content series, all while learning techie stuff, like how to send automatic email updates.

2) Expand my fitness knowledge. Last year I sought new fitness challenges. I stepped up my cardio routine with TRX and spin classes. I ran a 10K. I learned how to do a headstand. And that was all great! But this year I want to learn more about the body’s workings and why each move/position is so important for wellness, all while continuing to work on my handstand variations.

3) Travel to new and exotic places, because when I experience new places, cultures, and customs I love and understand the world even more. Morocco, Iceland, and Bali are at the top of my list.

Oh… and I’m going to drink more water and sleep more. I say this every year. Some things don’t change easily.  And while these are not a bold life actions, I with hold on to these intentions until I’m properly hydrated and fully rested, and that takes cajones!

Happy New Year!!

Xx, Jenn

About

I'm an American writer/mother/boss living in London, sharing stories and articles about the things I love most – fashion, travel, and wellness; all told with a little tongue-in-cheek humour, because I also love satire, sarcasm, idiosyncrasies and double entendres.

All opinions are my own. All photos are taken by me (or my begrudging art directed husband, a specially recruited friend, or maybe my mom).
