[GREECE] A DAY DRESS IN ATHENS

jcrew dress in athens

I pack, therefore I go.  This summer I ventured to Athens – the birthplace of philosophy, democracy, theatre, classical architecture, as well as the Olympics.  Today this modern city, rich in heritage and littered with ancient ruins, is often bypassed for its flashier local isles. (An offence I am totally guilty of.)  But on this occasion, I decided to pay my respects to the city that invented pretty much everything cool.   [Read more…] about [GREECE] A DAY DRESS IN ATHENS

[MOROCCO] THE LWD, BERBER-STYLED

banana republic white dress

This summer this LWD is my new go-to dinner dress.  It is the ultimate blank canvas, so I am packing it in all my holiday suitcases.

My last holiday was to the Kasbah Tamadot, perched in the middle of the Moroccan mountains.  Inspired by the local culture and Berber Museum in Marrakesh, [Read more…] about [MOROCCO] THE LWD, BERBER-STYLED

[MOROCCO] A DAY DRESS IN MARRAKESH

Casablanca may have been in black and white, but Morocco is a country full of colour.  And my recent trip to Marrakesh proved to be a vibrant one.  From the gardens to the souks, from the local restaurants to my own riad, the city possessed a spectrum for all the senses.   [Read more…] about [MOROCCO] A DAY DRESS IN MARRAKESH

[LONDON] Being More Marilyn: 8 Little White Dresses

banana republic little white dress

Everyone knows the LBD.  The always chic and sophisticated little black dress that takes a woman from work to dinner to night club – always looking amazingly apropos.  Made iconic by the likes of Coco Chanel and Audrey Hepburn, it remains a beacon.  However, when the dark days of winter are done, a woman needs a bright light in her wardrobe.  A symbol of spring awakening that moves just as easily across her day, as well as in to her upcoming summer holidays.   [Read more…] about [LONDON] Being More Marilyn: 8 Little White Dresses

[LONDON] DOLCE & VANILLA

Tea at The Berkeley

One of the best thing about living in London is playing tourist. So this November, in traditional English fashion, I went for afternoon tea at The Berkeley Hotel in Knightsbridge. And just like London, it was lovely.

With Christmas around the corner, the hotel foyer resembled a winter wonderland, straight out of a fairytale, with a giant white birch tree, adorned with baubles and birds, framing a lit fireplace surrounded by little woodland creatures and burning candles. [JAPAN] HOW TO DRESS AS GODMOTHER OF A SHIP

My Style On The Lamb: Toba, Japan

Ever wondered what to wear to a christening – of a boat – in Japan? This was my latest wardrobe dilemma. Like most people, I’ve often struggled with the conundrum of what to wear. But this paradox took dressing decisions to a whole new level, as I was about to sail through unchartered fashion territory. (Pardon my nautical reference.) Not only was I attending a formal event in Toba, a stunning city on the coast of Japan, but also I was to be the Godmother of the ship and would be highly photographed as an important member of its history. The pressure to dress was on!

Luckily living in London provides many shopping options. There are fine department stores and small boutiques located throughout the city. But when looking for ceremonial shopping inspiration one should look no further than London’s very own royals, more specifically – Kate Middleton. Where does she shop for all her lovely, lady-like attire? Putting aside any custom-made frocks, it’s L.K. Bennett that hangs in her closet. So with that in mind, to the British retailer I went.

It didn’t take long to decide what to buy as the store is filled with beautiful dresses, all with hems that fall below the knee, an important feature for lady-like occasion wear. (Don’t get me wrong I love a short skirt, but there’s a time and place.) I quickly settled on the Kenton dress because of its feminine shape and sleeveless design, another important factor given Toba’s sub-tropical temps.  Despite it’s fine structure, it was the beautiful floral pattern – organic, bright with complementary colours, and beaming with an Asian influence – that made me say yes to the dress.

With the dress decided, a few shop girls and I deliberated in the dressing room over what shoes would pair best.  I wanted something versatile (so that I could wear it twice) and I wanted something with a low heel (to avoid any embarrassing slips on deck).  With their brilliant recommendation for the Minu Patent Leather Court shoes in Marshmallow Pink – the perfect pinky neutral for my skin tone and modest kitten heel – I was set for the seaside. About

I'm an American writer/mother/boss living in London, sharing stories and articles about the things I love most – fashion, travel, and wellness; all told with a little tongue-in-cheek humour, because I also love satire, sarcasm, idiosyncrasies and double entendres.

All opinions are my own. All photos are taken by me (or my begrudging art directed husband, a specially recruited friend, or maybe my mom).
