[MERIBEL] GEAR, GEAR & MORE GEAR: A BASIC GUIDE TO BUYING SKI KIT

me in my ski helmet

I am super excited about my new helmet!  Is that lame?  For almost 10 years I have been skiing with rental headgear, which is usually uncomfortable and slightly gross.  But finally, on my recent ski trip to Meribel, France, I purchased a new shiny black ski helmet (for 30% off) that’s protective, padded, and full of hi-tech features like air vents and bluetooth. But like any tried and true skier knows, this purchase is just the tip of the ski kit iceberg.   [Read more…] about [MERIBEL] GEAR, GEAR & MORE GEAR: A BASIC GUIDE TO BUYING SKI KIT

THE LONDON FASHION WEEKEND LOOK

london fashion week ootd

Lights. Camera. Fashion. This past weekend was London Fashion Weekend, the less cool, but still loveable, sister of London Fashion Week.  Located at the posh Saatchi Gallery in Chelsea, this is a biannual four day event designed to allow fashion-loving lay people (like myself) a chance to experience designer catwalk shows, study upcoming trends, and shop fashionable finds in the pop-up marketplace for the mere ticket cost of +£40.   Plus you get a free tote bag. [PARIS] LAYERING LIKE THE FRENCH

layered look in paris

What is it that makes French style so fine?  That je-ne-sais-quo quality that just seems to work so well.  Evident in the flip of a hat brim or on a plate of steak frites, the French know how to style up anything. [Read more…] about [PARIS] LAYERING LIKE THE FRENCH

[LONDON] DATE NIGHT

night at the movies

There are many theories on what makes a happy marriage. Communication. Compromise. His and her bathrooms.  While all those are valid, for me it’s date night.  All week long we work hard.  We go to our respective offices, attend meetings, write reports, and present them to our bosses.  Then we manage life, run errands, clean the house, pay taxes.  All this, mixed with trips to the gym and sleep for the weary.  That’s why I think spending time together, doing something fun (ideally out of the home) is so good for relationships.  It restores balance to our busy lives and reverts us back to those early days of courtship when all was exciting and fresh.

So this past weekend my husband and I went on a date to the movies at the iconic Electric Cinema in Notting Hill.  And just like old times, I planned my look accordingly.  I wanted a outfit that was cute, but comfortable.  So I opted for a classic J.Crew tweed blazer because girls with boyish flair always look cooler than sh*t and there’s nothing sexier than houndstooth and elbow patches, right?  Worn over a lightweight t-shirt with a seasonal scarf, skinny jeans and black suede heeled boots, my style suited the cinema and an affair to remember. [LONDON] HANDS UP FOR HALLOWEEN

skeleton hands tee shirt

Halloween is a day famous for many things: scary movies, costumes, candy, and spooky Simpson episodes.  And while I love all those things, Halloween is extra special to me because on this day, six years ago, I wore the grandest costume of my life, a big white satin ballgown, for my wedding.  With its strapless sweetheart neckline, rhinestone appliqués, and layers of satin and crinoline, my bridal look was timeless. [BERLIN] TO THE WALL

IMG_5718

As a blogger I am always location scouting for cool and interesting backdrops for my future fashion posts. From pretty coloured townhouses to industrial garage doors, no background is out of bounds. On my recent trip to Berlin, it didn’t take me long before I discovered probably the coolest stretch of background a blogger could find. Extending 12 feet high, and once almost 100 miles long, and ranging in colors from muted beige to bright and metallic graffiti – the Berlin Wall was to be the perfect background for an #OOTD. About

I'm an American writer/mother/boss living in London, sharing stories and articles about the things I love most – fashion, travel, and wellness; all told with a little tongue-in-cheek humour, because I also love satire, sarcasm, idiosyncrasies and double entendres.

All opinions are my own. All photos are taken by me (or my begrudging art directed husband, a specially recruited friend, or maybe my mom).
